Marriage4 Feb 1817 He married Isabella Buchanan, daughter of Mathew Buchanan and Elizabeth Edmiston, on 4 Feb 1817 in Washington County, Virginia.4 
Land-Buy25 Jul 1842 On 25 Jul 1842 William and Isabella bought 149 acres from Arthur and Lucretia Reid. The land included the area where Cedar Creek runs into the Middle Fork of the Holston River. William's father John had patented 276 acres to the east in 1789.5 
Cens-185011 Oct 1850  William and Isabella were enumerated together on the 1850 Washington Co. census with their two youngest children, 21 year old Samuel and 19 year old George. William's land was valued at $5,900. He was a farmer.6 
Widowed29 Jul 1860  Isabella died on 29 Jul 1860. 
Cens-186017 Sep 1860  On Sept. 17th, six weeks after Isabella's death, the census taker again visited William's home. Since the official census date for 1860 was June 1st, Isabelle was listed as a member of the household along with William and their son George. William's land holdings in 1860 were valued at $12,000. He also owned personal property worth $6,000.7 
Cens-1860- Slave  The latter figure included two young-adult slaves.8 
Death23 Dec 1866 William died on 23 Dec 1866 in Washington County, Virginia.3,2 
Burial He was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County.3
