Birth14 May 1846 Ann Eliza Carmack was born on 14 May 1846 near Maple Grove, in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Childhood Ann grew up with 4 brothers and 4 sisters in the Goodson district of Washington County, Virginia.4,5,6 
Marriage17 May 1871 or 19 Mar 1871 She married Leander M. Kestner on 17 May 1871 or 19 Mar 1871 in Washington County.2,7 
Cens-188011 Jun 1880  After their marriage, she and Leander, who was employed as a carpenter, continued to live in the same part of the county where Ann was raised.1 
Residence  They may have spent a few years across the state border as their son Charles was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee about 1875. 
DeathJul 1908 Ann died in Jul 1908 , probably on the 19th or 21st at age 62.8 
Burial She was buried at East Hill Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Obituary Ann Eliza's obituary states that she died at her home at 915 Cumberland (Bristol?) of acute indigestion. It added that she was the widow of L.M. Kestner, the daughter of Isaac and Jane Carmack, and the mother of Charles K. Kesner (of Glade Spring), Gordon C. Kesner (Bristol). It added that a son Mack Kesner died a few years earlier. Surviving siblings were listed as Samuel G. Carmack, James T. Carmack and Miss Sallie Carmack.3 

Research Comment:

Ann Eliza's children, as enumerated in 1880 (Isaac C. and Charles) are not entirely consistent with the names reported in her obituary. I have not yet located the family members on the 1900 census. At present only Charles, who appears in both the obituary and the 1880 census, has been added as a child.1
