Birth27 Jul 1793 Catharine Clark was born on 27 Jul 1793 in Argyll, Scotland. It is not entirely clear from the parish register if this was a birth or baptismal date.1
Migrationcirca 1817  Catharine migrated to Washington County, Virginia, with her parents and siblings circa 1817. She was about 24 years old.
Legatee15 May 1821  Per the conditions of her father's will, written in 1821, Catharine was to receive a horse worth $100, 3 cows and 6 sheep in 1826 - to be paid by her brothers. They were also to pay her $100 if she remained on the farm with the family until it was paid for. However, if she married she was not to be deprived of her dowry which was to be paid in 1829.2
Death14 May 1847 Catharine died on 14 May 1847 in Washington County, Virginia, at age 53.3
Will14 May 1847  On the day of her death Catharine expressed her wishes as to the disposition of her estate in the presence of John Clark, Rosannah J. Clark and Jane and Martha White. John recorded her wishes and presented them to the court as a nuncupative will. She left $195 dollars to her niece Catharine Watson, which apparently represented money she had loaned James Watson. She also remembered her nieces Martha H. Clark and Martha Watson, and her sisters Martha Watson and Mary Allison.3
Will-Recd28 Sep 1847  Before Catharine's will was recorded on September 28, 1847 a summons was issued against Robert Clark, John Clark, William B. Allison and Mary his wife, and John Clark and Nancy his wife, allowing them the opportunity to contest the will. They chose not do so.3
Burial Catharine was probably buried in Old Glade Spring Cemetery, Washington County. Though the information on the stone ( ____, Cathe__, who ____, age 53) is sketchy it coincides with Catherine's age at the time of her death. The stone is also located among other Clark family members.4
