BirthJul 1848 George A.C. Beattie was born in Jul 1848 in Virginia.3
Childhood  He was the middle child and second son in a family of two boys and 1 girl. George grew up in very comfortable surroundings in his parent's home in Washington Co., Virginia. His father's large estate included land that had originally belonged to George's great grandfather, John Beattie.4,5
Marriage He married Emma Louise Williams.6
Cens-1880Jun 1880  George and Emma lived in Washington County with George's parents in 1880. It appears they lived in Tennessee at some point during the early 1870s, as their daughter Lena was born there about 1864. Their other two children, William, age 3, and Thomas, age 1 were born in Virginia.7
Apr 1881  George's older brother, William Fountain Beattie, left Virginia and settled in Crittendon Co., Arkansas where he was a cotton planter and also served as the local sheriff. William was killed by an escapee while trying to make an arrest in April 1881. When the suspect was caught the crowd became unruly. George, who had traveled to Arkansas, addressed the crowd and asked that the man receive a fair trial.8
DeviseeJul 1885  George's father died in July 1885. His will left George the eastern portion of his Washington County land as well as acreage in Crittendon Co., Arkansas. When George's mother died in 1897 he inherited another 1,500 acres in Arkansas.9,10
Around 1898 George and Emma acquired the old Edmondson homestead slightly northwest of Glade Spring. Since that time it has been known by locals as the "old Beattie house."11
Cens-Sum  There they were enumerated at the turn of the century with their 8 children, who at that time ranged in age from 25 year old Lena to 8 year old George Jr.3,12
Death1919 George died in 1919.13,14
Burial He was buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.13
