Birth19 Mar 1866 Rev. James Buchanan Hutton was born on 19 Mar 1866 in Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia.3 
Devisee1892 When James's father, Arthur Hutton, died in 1892, he left James a share of his land on Crabtree Cove in Smyth County, Virginia. He also left him the old family Bible belonging to his grandfather, Beattie Ryburn.4,1 
Occupation James was a Presbyterian minister. 
Marriage8 May 1895 He married Irene Rosalind Gwin on 8 May 1895.5 
 He was 28 and she was 20. 
Residence James and Rosalind appear to have made their home in Mississippi from the time of their marriage as their first child was born there about 1896. 
Legatee30 Jun 1906 James' cousin, Elizabeth Byars Hall, remembered him when she wrote her will in 1906 with a gift of $300 from the sale of Elizabeth's crops and farming utensils.6 
Cens-19207 Jan 1920  In 1920 when census records recorded specific addresses, the family was enumerated at 226 N. State Street in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. Seven children were listed with them: Arthur, Martha, Mary, Samuel, James, Rosalind and Charlton. They ranged in age from twenty-four to seven.7 
Cens-19301930  Ten years later the family lived at the same address; they rented their home for $100 a month. Sons James and Charlton attended school and daughter Rosalind taught Bible school. Also living at home was daughter Martha Thompson and her seven year old daughter, Susan.8 
Death22 Sep 1940 James died on 22 Sep 1940 at age 74.9 
Burial He was buried at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Hinds County, Mississippi.5 

Research Comment:

Dr. J. B. Hutton authored a paper on the Hutton family which is filed in the Hutton file at the Washington County Historical Society at Abingdon, Virginia. It is cited as source material on many of the Hutton family narratives/ dp.10
