Cens-192022 Jan 1920  By Jan. 1920 James's father had remarried. James was recorded on that year's census with his father, stepmother, sister, half sister, and nephew.8 
Marriagecirca 1928 He married Gladys Hayter circa 1928.9 
Cens-19301930 In 1930 James and Gladys lived with M. Haytor. James was employed as a stenographer in a law office and Gladys taught high school. They paid $25 a month in rent.10 
Num Child James and Gladys did not have children of their own but adopted a son named Billy.11 
Death21 Oct 1975 James died on 21 Oct 1975 at age 75.5 
Burial He was buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.5
