Birth28 Jan 1858 Judge Francis Beatie Hutton was born on 28 Jan 1858 in Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia.4,5,6 
Legatee31 Aug 1867 Francis was remembered in the 1867 will of his Aunt Amanda Hutton, who had lived with the family since before Francis was born. Amanda left Francis the money due her from the will of her late father, Beattie Ryburn. She also left him a rose quilt.7 
Education Francis graduated from Emory and Henry College in Washington County.8 
Marriage22 Dec 1880 He married Jennie O. Preston, daughter of Samuel Preston and Catherine Gray, on 22 Dec 1880 in Washington County, Virginia.9,10,11 
 He was 22 and she was 19. 
Occupation  Francis began practicing law in 1882 and was soon appointed a U.S. Attorney. He also served as Judge of the Circuit Court for many years.12,13,14,8 
Residence1886 In 1886 Francis built a home on a 2 acre lot on Main Street in Abingdon. An alley on the west side of the home is now known as Hutton Street, in his honor.14 
Children  Here he and Jennie raised four sons and one daughter. A second daughter died in infancy. 
Devisee1892  Francis's father died in 1892 leaving him land in Crabtree Cove, in Smyth County, as well as an old clock which had belonged to his grandfather "for whom he was partly named."2 
  In addition to his law practice, Francis actively participated in the local community. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Abingdon, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a leader in the local Democratic Party. He also held the position of president of the Board of Trustees of Stonewall Jackson College in Abingdon.8 
Widowed25 Sep 1910 Francis was widowed by Jennie's death in 1910. 
Marriage11 Nov 1911 He married second Ruby C. Clark on 11 Nov 1911.15 
12 Nov 1911 He was 53 and she was 35. Ruby was a member of the faculty at the Stonewall Jackson Institute. They married in the school's front parlor. 
Cens-192022 Jan 1920  Frank and Ruby were the parents of one daughter, whom they name Ruby. They also helped raise Frank's grandson, Frank B. Hutton III, whose mother died shortly after his birth.16 
Death19 May 1928 Francis died of heart failure on 19 May 1928 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon at age 70.4,1,17 
Burial21 May 1928 He was buried on 21 May 1928 in Old Glade Spring Cemetery.4,6
