Ward24 Nov 1856  Following the death of Sarah's father in June 1856 the Washington County court appointed Jonathan Hanby [her father's brother] as Sarah's guardian.1
Sarah saw a lot of sadness in her young life. Besides her father's death in 1856 she lost 2 older siblings in 1854 and her other two siblings died in 1860. By 1870 Sarah and her mother lived with Sarah's aunt and uncle David and Ailcey Bradley in the Goodson District of Washington County.5,6
Marriage3 Apr 1873 She married John M. Bradley, son of James L. Bradley and Mary C. Hays, on 3 Apr 1873 in Washington County, Virginia.2
Sarah gave birth to a son Lee the year after her marriage. However, Sarah may have died not long afterwards. Sarah's mother Nancy wrote her will in 1876 and did not mention Sarah. Instead she left her estate to her sister "A.A." Bradley and noted that the Bradley's had agreed to care for Nancy's grandson Lee Bradley.7
