Birth8 Oct 1839 Mary Elizabeth Beaty was born on 8 Oct 1839 in Washington County, Virginia.3,1
Childhood  Mary's father died in 1847 at which time Mary, the second youngest of her parents 5 children, was 7 years old. Mary's mother Elizabeth was enumerated as the head of the household in 1850 and 1860.4,5
Mary's father had inherited a share of his grandfather Thomas Montgomery's land on the south side of the Middle Fork of the Holston River. Judging from the families enumerated adjacent to Elizabeth Beaty in 1850 and 1860, it appears she and the children lived on the old Montgomery land.
Marriage1 Mar 1864 Mary married Benjamin Reed, son of Hugh Reid and Nancy Keys, on 1 Mar 1864 in Washington County.1
Cens-18701870  Benjamin (33) and Mary (31) were recorded in their own household in 1870 with 4 year old Thomas. The neighboring household included Elizabeth Beatie [Mary's mother], Ann Tally [Mary's sister] and Margaret Gaither [also Mary's sister], suggesting Benjamin and Mary also lived on Thomas Montgomery's old land.6
Death9 Sep 1879 Mary died of liver disease on 9 Sep 1879 in Washington County at age 39.7,3
Burial She was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County.3
