Birth29 Feb 1832 Samuel Talbert Logan was born on 29 Feb 1832 in Virginia, probably in Washington County.3 
Childhood  Samuel was less than 4 years old when his mother died. The following year Samuel's father married Mary Talbert with whom the younger Samuel seems to have developed a close bond. 
Cens-185010 Oct 1850  The family lived in Abingdon where Samuel's father was a well known lawyer.4 
Fath-Death15 Jul 1855  In July 1855 the elder Samuel Logan died while attending court at Prince Edward Courthouse. The younger Samuel was appointed by the court to administer his father's estate. 
Cens-186020 Aug 1860  By 1860 Samuel lived in the Jonesboro District of Washington County, Tennessee, where he too practiced law. He also provided a home for Mary Logan, his stepmother.5 
  Mary married a prominent judge a few years later but by 1870 was again widowed. 
Cens-18702 Jun 1870  Samuel's 1870 census entry recorded him practicing law in the city of Knoxville where he owned property worth $1,000. Mary (Talbert) Logan Lacky was again part of Samuel's household, as was Cornelius Lacky, Mary's 23 year old stepson from her second marriage.6 
Marriage25 Oct 1870 Samuel married Maria Ruth Earnest on 25 Oct 1870 in Greene County, Tennessee.7 
Cens-188017 Jun 1880  Samuel and Maria lived in a home on West Hill (Hill Ave. West) in Knoxville. By the summer of 1880 they were the parents of 5 children. Mary Lucky was also a member of the household as were two servants.8 
WidowedFeb 1898  Maria died in Feb 1898. 
Cens-19001 Jun 1900  At the turn of the century Samuel was enumerated at his home at 702 Hill Ave. West. He was 68 years old and still practicing law. Son Nicholas (N. Ernest Logan) had also joined the profession. Son Samuel was a bank clerk. Mary Lucky, by then 82, remained part of the family unit.9 
ChildDeath27 Jun 1901  Tragedy struck Samuel's household in June 1901 when Samuel Jr. accidently drowned at age 24.10 
Death15 Oct 1901 Less than 4 months later, on 15 Oct 1901 Samuel died from paralysis at age 69.3,11 
Burial He was buried at Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee.3
