Marriage Margaret Montgomery married John Beaty.1
Devisee1803  Margaret's father wrote his will in 1803 in Washington County, Virginia. He left his daughters Abigail Preston and Margaret Beaty a large tract of Washington County land abutting the south side of the Middle Fork of the Holston River. The land was divided such that Abigail took the northern part of the tract adjacent to the river. Margaret's share sat south of that. Thomas noted that John Beaty [and presumably Margaret and their family] already lived on the land. On Abigail and Margaret's deaths the land was to be divided between their children. Abigail and Margaret's sister Ann was to receive her support from Abigail's share of the land.
Cens-18201820  John Beatie's 1820 census included: 1 male 16-26, 1 male 26-45, 1 male 45+, 1 female 26-45 and one female 45+. This suggests one of John's sons was no longer living at home.2
Deathbefore 27 Sep 1831  Margaret's date of death is unknown. She was deceased by Sept. 27, 1831 when a court ordered the land she had inherited from her father be divided among her children.3,4
Court Record27 Sep 1831  Margaret's sister Abigail was also deceased by this time. The court designated how the women's land should be divided but deeds were never executed. In the early 1840s Margaret's grandson Nelson Beaty [son of Margaret's daughter Jane Land who by then was also deceased] brought suit against Margaret's other heirs to divide the land.3
