Cens-185012 Sep 1850  Eliza and James lived in Washington County, Virginia, where they were recorded farming in 1850. A 3 year old, Andrew, was also enumerated.4 
Cens-186010 Aug 1860  By 1860, James, at age 40, owned land valued at $1,400 and personal property of $300. Five children were recorded in addition to 30 year old Eliza: Andrew (12), Sarah (9), Nancy (7), Mary (4) and Charity (4 months).6 
Cens-188028 Jun 1880  Three more children were added to the family after 1860: Laura [Martha], William and James. The 1880 census clarified that the family lived in the Holston District of Washington County.7 
  Three of the couple's children died as young adults: William in 1886, Laura in 1888 and Nancy (who had married David Mountain in 1876) died in 1884. 
Cens-190019 Jun 1900  At some point following James's death in 1890 and the 1900 census, Eliza's youngest son Denton [James Denton or Denton James] assumed the responsibility of caring for Eliza and running the family farm. Eliza's unmarried daughter Sarah also lived at home. The 1900 census recorded that Eliza was the mother of 8 children, but only 4 were still living.3 
Death1911 Eliza died in 1911.2 
Burial She was buried at Friendship Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.2
