George William Larimer1,2
b. 17 January 1874, d. 16 December 1953
Father | Robert James Larimer1,3 b. 20 Apr 1842, d. 17 Jun 1914 |
Mother | Sarah Ann Debusk1,3 b. 30 Nov 1849, d. 18 Aug 1918 |
Birth | 17 Jan 1874 | George William Larimer was probably born on 17 Jan 1874 as that is the date recorded in his father's Bible. However the 1900 census lists the year as 1872 and George's WWI draft registration uses 1873. However, both of these dates conflict with the birth date of his older sister Maggie.1,4,5 |
Marriage | 24 Sep 1895 | He married Sarah J. Pilkenton on 24 Sep 1895.6 |
Cens-1900 | 15 Jun 1900 | George and Sarah lived in the Castlewood District of Russell County, Virginia, where they were enumerated on the 1900 census with their first two children: Grace (3) and Robert (2). George was employed as a laborer at a lumber mill.5 |
The location of George and Sarah's youngest child, Charles, in 1900 is not known to me. He was was born in Jul 1899.
Divorce | He and Sarah J. Pilkenton were divorced.7
Marriage | 4 Jul 1909 | He married Maud Wilson, daughter of J.S. Wilson and Maggie (?), on 4 Jul 1909.6,8 |
George was abt 35 and Maud was probably 15 although the licenses stated she was 17. It also listed both George and Maud as divorced.8
Cens-1910 | 16 Apr 1910 | They were enumerated together in the Holston district of Washington County, Virginia, 1 year after their marriage. There were no children living with them but they were enumerated living just a few households from George's father and mother.9 |
Milit-Reg | 12 Sep 1918 | George completed the World War I draft registration in Washington County on 12 Sep 1918. The form stated that he was the deputy sheriff of Abingdon (the sheriff was J. E. Miller). His physical appearance was described as short and stout with blue eyes and light hair. George's place of residence at the time was Lodi, Washington County.4 |
Cens-1920 | 12 Jan 1920 | The 1920 census was enumerated about 16 months later. George and Maud now owned their own farm, although George listed his occupation as a merchant in a general store. Maud was working as a clerk in the store. The couple's two children, Gertrude (10) and George (2) were also present.10 |
Cens-1930 | 7 Apr 1930 | By 1930 the family was living in the city of Abingdon in Washington County. They rented a home on Park Avenue for $8 per month. George was again working as a laborer at a sawmill. The couple's youngest child, 9 year old Warren was recorded along with his older siblings, Gertrude and Clarence.11 |
At some point during his years in Washington County, George, while serving with one of the local sheriffs offices, punched a man while acting in the line of duty. The man, who was outside a bar, fell, hit his head on the curb and died from his injuries. George served 5 years for the incident.7
Migration | George did not live out his life in Virginia. Instead he headed west, settling in Oregon where he was a successful businessman.7
Death | 16 Dec 1953 | George died on 16 Dec 1953 in Dayton, Yamhill County, Oregon, at age 79.12,7 |
At the time of George's death it was believed he accidently fell into a creek near his home and drowned. However family members have also been told that George was the victim of a robbery.7 |
