    Carroll County Families with Washington Co., Virginia roots

    Garner Moffett and Mary Jane B. (Davis) Moffett left Washington Co., Virginia in 1831. After spending several years in Indiana they settled in Carroll County in 1836.

    Garner's brother, Abraham Moffett and his wife Sarah (Davis) Moffett (Mary Jane's cousin) settled in Carroll County after their 1841 wedding in Virginia.

    Mary Jane (Davis) Moffett's father died back in Washington County in 1842 after which the widowed Sarah (Ryburn) Davis migrated west to Carroll County along with her sons John, Mathew and William, her daughters Margaret and Sarah and her daughter and son-in-law Eleanor and Pleasant McCoy.

    About 1844 William Hawk (the widowed husband of Abraham and Garner's sister Hannah Moffett) arrived in the county where he married Margaret Davis.

    Garner and Abraham's brother Thomas and his wife, Ann E. (Davis) Moffett (Mary Jane and Margaret's sister) arrived about 1846 after a few years in Indiana.
