Moses H. Buchanan Civil War letters

Moses H. Buchanan enlisted in Co. F. of the 37th Virginia Infantry on March 24, 1862. Capt. George Graham led the company. The 37th Virginia participated in many engagements during the Civil War, including the Battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Cedar Mountain. They fought at Antietam, Gettysburg and Spotsylvania Courthouse. Originally over 800 strong, only 2 officers and 39 men surrendered at the end of the war. Moses survived the battles but was captured and held prisoner twice, the first time on May 12, 1864. Moses' brother, Arthur R. Buchanan also enlisted in Co. F, but was discharged on a certificate of disability due to consumption.

Capt. George Graham Civil War letters

George Graham served as captain of Co. F. of the 37th Virginia Infantry. He was wounded on May 6, 1863 and transferred from Richmond to Emory and Henry College [Hospital] to recuperate. George resigned his commision in February 1864 by which time he was a member of the Virginia General Assembly.
