Mr. Lawrence O. Weakley,
600 North Eighth,
St. Joseph, Missouri.

Dear Mr. Weakley: Re Family of Armstrong Beattie.

My Uncle, Samuel F. Cole, of St. Joseph, gave me your name and address and suggested that possibly you could furnish me some inf roation [information] concerning the BEATTIE Family.  I am not a Beattie, but was born in the home of John Breckenridge Beattie, who lived east of Savannah.  He married my grandfather Cole’s sister.  I have been searching far and wide to discover sertain [sic] Beattie families to complete a family story of the Beattie Family of Virginia.  Numerous members of the family vaame [came] to Missouri.  Two Cousins, James and Samuel Beattie, lived neighbors at Columbia, Mo. many years ago.  ARMSTRONG BEATTIE, son of one of those men later moved to St. Joseph and you probably know of his work there.  I am told that he had no children.

If my memory serves me aright a SAMUEL BEATTIE, supposed to be his nephew or perhaps a cousin, also came to St. Joseph, and worked with Armstrong Beattie in the bank.  What I am now trying to get is the facts regarding this man Beattie.  I desire to know if possible the name of his father, where this St. Joseph Beattie was born, where he was living when he died, and something about his family.

I was in St. Joseph in 1938 and checked records there, and discovered that Armstrong Beattie married a Miss Snoddy, but left no children.  Uncle suggested that he left an adopted son.  Perhaps you can tell me about this.

I assure you my only object in seeking this data is to secure some information which will help me link the Beattie who worked with Armstrong Beattie, with the other Beattie Families.  In other words I seek this data for nse [use] in a family historty [history] sketch of the Beatties.

Am hopeful that you can be of assistance to me and can give mt [me] leads which will help me locate Samuel Beattie and his family, if that was his name.  My father J. B. Cole, knew Armstrong Beattie real well, and it was he that told me about the young Mr. Beattie, who lived for a time with Armstrong.  In case you are not in a position to furnish me personally the infor, ation [information], I would be obliged to you if you would send me names and addresses of persons able to furnish data such as I indicated above.

Yours very truly,

Redmond Selecman Cole,
Box 92, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
