Are you a descendant of a Beattie?   If your answer be yes, please advise me of the name of your Beattie forebear, and please tell me what you may have regarding the family of this Beattie.

My father was Hampden Sidney Beattie, son of Josiah N. & Eleanor White Beattie.  He was born on Dec. 31-1826 in Glade Spring Va.  My father, his three brothers, John, Thomas & James & his sister Susan, came to Mo. after the death of their mother and evidently settled in or near Savannah, as it was in this city where my mother & father first met each other.  My mother was Marion Thankful Mumford and was en route to Utah with her parents who had joined the Mormon Church.  My father came to Utah with them in 1849 and settled in Salt Lake City where he lived & died when he was 61 years old.  His brothers John & Thomas went to California and settled in San Francisco & Ukiah.  His brother James went to Montana where he lived & died unmarried.  My fathers sister Susan married a Mr. Moss & lived in St. Joseph, Mo.  Her son who was Joseph B. Moss, my cousin, lived there until his death some years ago.  I think he was in the lumber business.

Do you know of any old records dealing with your family, which can be had indicating when and where your Beattie family originated.

I think without doubt that old records of this family can be found in Rockbridge Co. & Washington Co. Va.   I hope to be able to go to Glade Spring, Washington Co. this fall & if I am fortunate enough to do so & find anything of interest I will be very glad to send it to you.
