  Samuel's great grandson describes Sam as an "entrepreneur" and that seems a much more apt description than the simple "cement contractor" entered under occupation on the 1930 census. Sam was involved in many different activities. For many years he was a professional house mover, relocating homes for institutions such as Texas A & M when they expanded. He bought property and donated much of it to the city of Mesquite, who built an elementary school on one parcel and named it after him. Sam owned rental homes, a gas station and was a rancher. He served as the mayor of Mesquite and also as its fire chief.4,3 
Death5 Jun 1973 Samuel died on 5 Jun 1973 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas, from complications following carotid artery surgery.2 
Burial6 Jun 1973 He was buried on 6 Jun 1973 at Hillcrest Mausoleum in Dallas.2
