Birth1 May 1876 George McConkey Rutherford was born on 1 May 1876 in Virginia.3 
Childhood George's mother died when he was young. He grew up with his father (and next to his maternal grandmother) in the Goodson District of Washington County, Virginia.2 
  George's aunt and uncle, Mary Elizabeth (Ryburn) Carmack and Charles Carmack were in Mesquite, Texas by 1900. It appears George also moved to Mesquite prior to 1900. I have not located him on the 1900 census but his eldest son was born in Mesquite in Jan. 1897. 
Marriage He married first Gussie Borchardt.4 
Marriagecirca 1900 He married second Ida M. Harris circa 1900.5 
Cens-191018 Apr 1910 By 1910 George was also living in Mesquite which was in Dallas County, along with his wife, Ida, and 3 children: Harris, age 7, Sam T., age 5, and Ruby G., age 3. Ida reported that this was her first marriage and that she was the mother of an additional child who was no longer living. George, however, stated the this was his second marriage. He also reported that he worked on the railroad.5 
Cens-192027 Jan 1920 By 1920 George was working as an engineer at a cotton gin.6 
Cens-19301930  Ten years later he was still living in Mesquite, where he reportedly owned a home (not a farm) valued at $3,000. He was working as a laborer at odd jobs. Ida was not enumerated in the household but George did not list himself as widowed or divorced. His son Samuel and Samuel's wife lived a few doors away.7 
Death10 Aug 1939 George died on 10 Aug 1939 in Mesquite at age 63.3
