Birth1 Mar 1888 Walter Washington Ryburn was born on 1 Mar 1888 in Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee.2
Name Other Walter was known as "W.W."4
Marriage He married Antoinette Winzer.2
Cens-191015 Apr 1910  Like his older brother John, Walter made his living selling merchandise in the town of Erwin. The 1910 census recorded Walter at age 22 and listed his occupation as "retail merchant - drygoods and groceries". The census also enumerated his wife, Antoinette, who would give birth to their first child the following month. Walter's widowed sister, Rowena, and her 8 year old daughter also lived with the couple.5
Cens-192013 Jan 1920 The 1920 census clarified that Walter and Antoinette lived near Walter's sister Annie and her husband John Price on 2nd Street in Erwin.6
Unfortunately, in the years between the 1910 and 1920 census enumerations, tragedy had struck the two families. On October 17th, 1918, Walter and Antoinette's young son, Walter Jr., and John and Annie's 4 year old son, William, were playing together in a barn when it caught fire. Both boys were killed.
In addition, Walter and Antoinette's first child, born just after the 1910 census, had only survived a few months.
Occupation In later years Walter worked as a clerk for the US Post Office.1
Death25 Jun 1948 Walter died from a coronary occlusion on 25 Jun 1948 in Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee, at age 60.1
Burial27 Jun 1948 He was buried on 27 Jun 1948 at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin.7,1
