| Birth | Feb 1860 | William A. Durell was born in Feb 1860 in Illinois.2 |
| William's middle name may have been Alexander. A family photograph labeled by his niece, Geno (Lowe) Carver, identified the 5 sons of William and Mary Jane Durell as Osburn, Elex, Ben, Lon, John, and Arthur. Since she did not label anyone as William, and since William's middle initial was "A", one might conclude "Elex" was Alex and that William was William Alexander. | ||
| The 1880 census entry for William R. and Mary Jane Durell is puzzling in that it includes two Julia Durells. One is enumerated as a 19 year old immediately below William A. Durell who was 20. The second Julia was 5 years old and appears in other family records. Both were listed as William R. Durell's daughter, however the older Julia was not part of his 1870 household. At first glance it seemed likely she was William A. Durell's wife.3 | ||
| Cens-State | 3 Jun 1885 | However in 1885 W.A. Durell was enumerated Keya Paha County, Nebraska with Marion B. Durell, 28. They were both married [presumably to each other although that is not stated]. With them was a 5 month old infant, Oscar L. Durell.4 |
| Marriage | circa 1897 | He married second Flora (?) circa 1897.2 |
| Cens-1900 | 22 Jun 1900 | In 1900 William was recorded farming in Morris County, Kansas with wife, Flora. They had been married 3 years and were the parents of two year old twins, Eleanor and Donald. Fourteen year old Oscar L. Durell was living with them and was enumerated as William's son. Flora's son, Charles Weaver, 13, was also present. Flora's age was listed as 27 and William was 40. The census taker had initially entered "16" for the number of years William had been married, but had crossed it out and written "3."2 |
| Another daughter was added to the family about 1901. | ||
| Cens-1910 | 4 May 1910 | The 1910 census again found William and his family in Morris County. However, this enumeration recorded his wife's name as Laura A. and stated that she was 46 years old. However, the other information recorded for her (marr #2, marr 13 years, mother 6 children, 4 living, b. IL) is consistent with the 1900 enumeration.5 |
| Cens-1920 | Jun 1920 | In 1920 she was again enumerated as Flora L.6 |
