Birth | 17 Aug 1880 | William David Clark was born on 17 Aug 1880 in Washington County, Virginia.1,3 |
Migration | | Following the 1900 census William appears to have headed west, possibly in the company of his brothers Oliver and George. |
Land-Patent | 26 Dec 1913 | A William D. Clark received a homestead certificate for 160 acres of land on 26 Dec 1913. The patent, received under the Homestead Act of 1862, would have required 5 years prior residence on the land. Beaver County sat due east of Texas Couty where both Oliver and George homesteaded land.4 |
Cens-1910 | 2 May 1910 | That this is the right William Clark would appear to be borne out by the 1910 census in which William D. Clark was enumerated in Nabisco township, Beaver County. He was born in Virginia, as were both of his parents. However, he listed his age as 28.5 |
Legatee | 5 Mar 1917 | William's father wrote his will in 1917. He did not devise William any of his land but rather instructed William's brothers Harry and Ambler (who did receive land) to pay Wiliam $100. |
Milit-Reg | 12 Sep 1918 | By 1918 however, William appears to have moved to neighboring Texas County. He registered there for the World War I draft on 12 Sep 1918. The form describes him as of medium height and build with brown eyes and brown hair. He stated that he was a 38 year old farmer. His nearest relative was listed as Anna Clark of Washington County, Virginia.3 |
