Marriage | before 22 Mar 1828 | John Logan married Rhoda (?) before 22 Mar 1828.2 |
Devisee | 27 Dec 1818 | John's father, James Logan, in his will written in December 1818 in Washington Co., Virginia, left John and his brother Caleb the mansion house in which he lived as well as the surrounding land. He specified that the smith tools and sawmill on the land should remain available for the use of all his sons. James also left John and Caleb the Chesnut ridge survey excepting two 50 acre parcels that were to go to John and Caleb's brothers Robert and William. In addition, John and Caleb received their father's interest in the Markland Mill land. John received a Negro boy named Dick and a share of the live stock from the plantation. John and Caleb were named executors of their father's will.1 |
Land-Sell | 22 Mar 1828 | John and Rhoda sold 117 acres of land for $775 to Jefferson Talbert and his wife Polly on 22 Mar 1828 in Washington County. The property, on the waters of the North Fork of the Holston River, was part of one of the tracts left to John and his brother Caleb in their father's will. An interesting aspect of the deed was that Jefferson Talbert only acquired a life interest in the property; whereas Polly's interest was not limited.2 |
Land-Sell | 20 Aug 1841 | On August 20, 1841 John and his brother Caleb executed a deed dividing land devised to them jointly in their father's will.3 |
Cens-1850 | 26 Jul 1850 | The 1850 census for Washington County found John (age 71) and Rhoda (69) living with [their son] John and his family.4 |
