Birth5 May 1863 Alexander Findlay Buchanan was born on 5 May 1863 in Washington County, Virginia.5 
Name Other  He was known by the nickname "Sandy."6 
Childhood  Alexander's childhood was spent on his father's estate known as "Keywood" which sat north of Glade Spring and south of Saltville in Washington County. 
Marriage1894 He married Linda Leftwich in 1894.7,4 
Cens-Sum  Alexander and Linda farmed land on the Glade Spring and Saltville Road near Alexander's parents and siblings. They were the parents of two children: Benjamin and Leftwich.8,9 
Widowed1917  Linda died in 1917. 
Cens-19207 Jan 1920  For some years Alexander raised Aberdeen Angus cattle. This was reflected in his 1920 census enumeration which listed him as a stock farmer. Both of his sons were enumerated in his home that year, as was his cousin Jean Buchanan.10 
  Later in life Alexander lived with his sister Jean Lyon back at Keywood where he occupied a room over the kitchen in the back part of the house.6 
Death13 Nov 1940 Alexander died on 13 Nov 1940 at age 77.5 
Burial He was buried at Edgehill Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.5
