Birth19 Jun 1842 John Montgomery Clark was born on 19 Jun 1842 in Virginia.1,6,7,8 
Childhood  John was the 8th child and 2nd son in a family of 12 children, several of whom did not survive childhood. He grew to adulthood on his parents farm in Washington County, Virginia.7,9,10,5 
  Three of John's older sisters did not marry but also remained at home. All three died during the 1880s, as did John's father. His mother had died in 1868. 
Cens-190020 Jun 1900 When their father died in 1880, John took over as head of the household and continued farming the family land. His brother Thomas, sister Emma and brother-in-law Charles Clark lived with him.8 
  John and Thomas also owned 16 acres of land on the south side of the Old Stage Road just west of Glade Spring Church and cemetery. They purchased the land on April 4, 1873 from Ebenezer Alexander Robinson and his wife Rebecca for $648.25. The parcel sat to the south of 35 acres acquired from the Robinsons in April 1869 by Peter Clark.11,12 [presumably the men's father] 
Death9 Jul 1908 John died on 9 Jul 1908 at age 66.13,6 
Burial He was buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.6

  4. [S709] Peter Clark will (recorded 1880), Washington Co., Virginia Will Book 20: 334. The will was dated 4 Nov. 1873 with a codicil added 2 March 1878. It was first produced in court on 26 Jul 1880 on the oath of M. Morriss and J.(or I) Benham. On 27 Sept. 1880 it was again introduced and proven on the oath of James A. Clark, the last witness to the codicil. Thomas Clark, one of the executors declined to qualify. John M. Clark, the other executor, took the oath and entered bond in the amount of $1,000 with James P. Clark and Thomas B. Clark his security.
