Birth11 Aug 1830 Thomas Benjamin Estill Edmondson was probably born on 11 Aug 1830 although a family record kept by his sister appears to have recorded his date of birth as the 30th.4,2 
Cens-18604 Jul 1860  Thomas was enumerated on the 1860 census in the household of Robert Edmondson [his father]. Although the family appeared to be residing on a farm, Thomas's occupation was listed as "merchant". He was 30 years old and owned personal property valued at $10,000.5 
Military14 May 1861 On 14 May 1861 Thomas enlisted in Company L. of the First Virginia Cavalry [later known as Co. D, or (2nd) Co. D]. Virginia had seceded from the Union the previous month. He first held the rank of sergeant, but on March 25, 1863 was promoted to 3rd Lieutenant.6 
Death7 May 1864 Thomas died on 7 May 1864 during fighting at Todd's Tavern in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, at age 33. The Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse was fought the following day.7,4 
Burial He was buried in the family plot at Old Baptist Cemetery Annex back home in Washington County, in Virginia.4
