Devisee5 May 1846  William's father wrote his will in May 1846. On the same day the two men exchanged tracts of land, leaving the younger William with the parcel on which his parents were living. The will also left William $575 as part of this transaction, however the younger William was charged with paying each of his siblings or their heirs $142. The will empowered William to receive title from his father's estate to 3 parcels held by his father, totalling about 149 acres. William and his brother John were designated as their father's executor.1

However he was charged with paying $1,000 of the amount William owed his siblings under the will of his father William Sr. William also directed that land on which his brother Emmet lived was to eventually be sold, with $200 of the proceeds going to William's nephews William Snoddy, William Sandoe, William Carmack and William Gray (son of Emmet).
