Birth11 Mar 1811 Jannet Buchanan was born on 11 Mar 1811 in Virginia.5
In the terms of the day, Jannet (also spelled Janet, Jennett, Jeannett, etc.) was of feeble intellect. She lived at home with her parents in Washington County, Virginia, until her father died in 1867. In the spring of 1869 Jannet entered into an agreement with Sarah Jane Walden whereby Janet transferred her interest in the lands she had inherited from her father to Walden. An accompanying agreement was apparently presented to Jannet in such a way she felt she would be provided for during her lifetime.

However, the arrangement did now work out and Jannet returned home following which, in Feb. 1872, Mary G. Cunningham, as Jannet's sister and representative, filed suit against Walden and her children. Sarah Jane Walden did not respond to the suit and the court ordered the agreement voided and the deed be set aside.5,6,7
