b. circa 1781, d. before December 1865
BirthCircacirca 1781 Mary (?) was born circa 1781.
Marriage She married Alexander Robinson
Widowed1845  Alexander died in late 1845. His will left Mary a life estate in the land on which the couple lived. He also left her a horse, 2 cows, 6 head of sheep and the household and kitchen furniture.1
The 178 acres on which Mary and Alexander lived sat on the south side of the Middle Fork of the Holston River and was known as the Todd Place. Alexander had purchased it in 1819 from John Jameson. Much of the tract had been owned by James Todd in the early 1800s.
Cens-18501850  Judging by her neighbors, Mary was probably living on this land in 1850. Her household included her 45 year old daughter Margaret Dungan and 3 Dungan [spelled Dunnings by the enumerator] children: James, 15, Mary J., 13 and Thomas 11. Mary was 69 and noted to own land worth $1,700.2
Cens-18606 Aug 1860  Ten years later Mary was again enumerated as the head of her household. Nine year old Wesley Tomlinson lived with her.3
Wesley may have been the son of Mary's daughter Eliza Tomlinson who died in 1853. Mary's son James Robinson and his family were enumerated as the adjacent household and next to James was the household of Mary's son Samuel Robinson.
Deathbefore Dec 1865 Mary died before Dec 1865 at which time her will was recorded at court.4
Will25 May 1854  The will, written in May 1854, divided Mary's estate (which consisted of moneys and promissory notes) into 4 shares: 1 each to her daughters Leah Snodgrass, Margaret Dungan, Rachel Snodgrass, and the children of her deceased daughter Eliza Tomlinson. Mary named her son James as her executor.4
