John Robinson1

d. circa 1792
John's name appears in records as both Robison (will), Robinson (estate inventory) and Robertson (survey and grant).
Marriage John Robinson married Elizabeth (?)
Will19 Nov 1791  John wrote his will on 19 Nov. 1791. He left his personal property to his wife Elizabeth during her natural life and at her death it was to be divided among John's 4 children, whom he did not name. He appointed Elizabeth as his executrix. The will was witnessed by James Kincannon and Mathew Ryburn.2
Deathcirca 1792 John probably died in late 1791 or early 1792. An abstract of his will says it was written in Nov. 1791 and recorded in Feb. 1791 but the second date appears to be in error.
Probate Recd4 Aug 1792  John's estate was inventoried in the summer of 1792 by James Kincannon, Mathew Ryburn and John Stewart.1
Following John's death Elizabeth married, in 1794, Enoch Anderson.3
17 Nov 1795  On Nov. 17th, 1795 Enoch and Elizabeth Anderson (noted to be the late widow and executrix of John Robertson dec'd) executed a deed to sell William Stewart 30 acres of land on the waters of Bakers Creek in Washington County for £15. The deed noted that John Robertson had executed a bond on 28 Oct. 1791 to sell the land to William Stewart. The tract bordered Daniel Perkins, David Beattie and John Porterfield. The land was granted to John Robertson on June 13, 1793.4 [which appears to be after his death]

Research Comment:

This is a different John and Elizabeth Robinson/Robertson couple than John Robinson and Elizabeth (Edmiston) Robinson. The subject John died prior to Aug. 1792 and his widow Elizabeth remarried in 1794. Their children were born prior to Nov. 1791. The John Robinson who married Elizabeth Edmiston died in in 1826. He outlived Elizabeth. Seven of their 9 children were born after Aug. 1792.

Interestingly, the two John Robinsons lived in the same general area; one cannot help but suspect they were related. They lived on opposite sides of the huge tract originally owned by John Beattie. The subject John Robinson owned a small 30 acre parcel on the north of the Beattie land (adjacent to a parcel then owned by John Beattie's son David). The John who died in 1826 lived on the south side of John Beattie's tract, adjacent to land inherited by John's son William Beattie.

I have not attempted to identify the 4 children born to the John and Elizabeth Robinson of this narrative. If you can shed light on this couple's family please contact me.
