Birth15 Jan 1870 John Trigg Byars was born on 15 Jan 1870 in Friendship, Washington County, Virginia, according to his death certificate. However the 1870 Washington Co. census listed his birth as having occurred in March of that year.3,1
Childhood  John's mother died when John was 4 years old. His father then married Almeda Cole and later Sarah (Thomas) Nichols.3,2
Migration  As a young adult John left Virginia and migrated west to Missouri.
Marriagecirca 1899 He married Lydia Stryker circa 1899.4
Cens-19008 Jun 1900  In the first years of their marriage John and Lydia lived with her parents, John and Rebecca Stryker at 1819 Sidney Ave. in Kansas City, Missouri. John worked as an electrician.5
Cens-191015 Apr 1910  By 1910 John (age 41) and Lydia (age 40) had moved to 1815 Norton Street where they were enumerated in April with their 6 year old daughter Ruth.6
Sadly, Ruth would die in November. In 1911 Lydia gave birth to a second daughter, Virginia, who died the following year. She also gave birth to a son Sam in either 1911 or 1912.
Cens-19203 Feb 1920  Sam was recorded with John and Lydia in 1920. He was 8 years and 8 months old suggesting he was born in 1911 and was probably Virginia's twin. In 1920 the family lived on Baratt [?] Street. John had risen to the position of inspector for the Kansas City Light Company. He and Lydia were both 50 years old.7
Cens-19308 Apr 1930  For reasons that are unclear, John Lydia and Sam left Missouri and moved to Florida where they owned a farm in 1930 on Hatcher Road.8
Death13 Mar 1950 John died on 13 Mar 1950 at Kansas City General Hospital #1 in Jackson County, Missouri, at age 80.1
Burial16 Mar 1950 He was buried on 16 Mar 1950 at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.1
John and Lydia's stay in Florida must not have lasted long as John's death certificate stated he had been a resident of Kansas City for 52 years. He lived at 1841 Kansas Ave. at the time of his death.
Lydia died in Jan. 1959 and is buried at Mt. Washington Cemetery with John. The couple's daughters Ruth and Virginia are also buried there.
