Birth16 Mar 1815 John Glenn was born on 16 Mar 1815 in Washington County, Virginia.2,1 
Military20 Aug 1861  With the outbreak of the Civil War John enlisted as a private in Company F of the 37th Virginia Infantry. He was 46 at the time. John was wounded in the chest at the Battle of Kernstown on March 23, 1862 and moved to a hospital at Abingdon. His discharge papers, dated May 14th, 1862 and signed by Capt. George Graham, noted that he was being discharged not because of his injuries but because he was over 45 years of age. The form also described John as 5 feet, 6 inches tall with dark hair, a dark complexion, and grey eyes.3 
Cens-18807 Jun 1880  John returned to the family farm in Washington County and served as the head of an extended family that included his younger brother Robert and his widowed sister-in-law Martha Glenn. Her husband William (John's younger brother) had been killed at the Battle of Hatcher's Run in 1865 leaving Martha with 6 young children to care for.4 
Death11 Mar 1897 John died on 11 Mar 1897 at age 81.2 
Burial He was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.2
