Birth3 Mar 1826 Robert Franklin Beattie was born on 3 Mar 1826 in Pulaski County, Kentucky.3
Marriage27 Oct 1853 He married Hettie Edmondson Newell, daughter of John Montgomery Newell and Margaret Beaty, on 27 Oct 1853 in Pulaski County, Kentucky.4
Hettie's older sister Mary Jane Newell was the second wife of Cyrenius Wait whose first wife had been Robert's sister Eliza. Hettie's brother Henry Clay Newell married Robert's sister Florence Beattie in 1869. To further confuse the issue, the mother of the 3 Newell siblings was Margaret Beaty, daughter of John and Mary Beaty who lived in Pulaski County at the same time as Robert's parents, John and Sarah Beatie.
Cens-Sum  Robert was not a farmer. His brothers William and Thomas farmed the Pulaski County land deeded to the family by Robert's grandfather William in the early 1800s, but as a young man Robert settled in the growing town of Somerset and became a dry goods merchant. He and Hettie raised 7 children and provided a home for Robert's sister Emeline.

Hettie died in March 1875. In 1880 Robert was enumerated as head of a household that included his son John (also a merchant), daughters Sallie, Mollie and Nannie, and 10 year old son Cyrenius. Sharing the home was Robert's daughter Maggie, her husband Charles Adams, and Robert's namesake, 4 year old Robbie Adams.5,6,7
