Birth26 Mar 1855 Thomas Frank Caldwell was born on 26 Mar 1855 in Washington County, Virginia.4,3
Cens-186028 Jul 1860 Thomas was the first born of his parent's 4 children. His father had been married previously and Thomas grew up with a large family of half-siblings.1
Name Other  As he reached adulthood Thomas appears to have used his middle name: Franklin or Frank.
Cens-188017 Jun 1880  Frank left Virginia by early 1880. In June of that year he was enumerated working as a farm hand for the William Allen family in Ft. Calhoun Precinct, Washington County, Nebraska.5
He may have migrated west with his oldest half-brother, James Caldwell, who was also enumerated in Washington County, Nebraska in 1880. At least two other half-siblings appear to have followed James and Frank west, including Jane (Caldwell) Edmondson whose daughter Margaret married in Washington Co., Nebraska in 1885. Thomas's half brother Samuel also spent time in Nebraska in the mid 1880s before settling in Kansas.
However by 1900 Frank had returned to Virginia, where he was enumerated in 1900 and 1920 with his 3 siblings. They lived in the Holston District of Washington County. All 4 were single; Frank and Charles were farmers while Sally and "Isabell" managed the family home. Frank was not recorded with them in 1910. I do not know if the enumerator missed him of if he was again living away from Washington County.2,6
Death22 Sep 1926 Thomas died on 22 Sep 1926 at age 71.3
Burial He was buried at Zion Methodist Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3
