Military19 May 1944  Charles enlisted in the US Army at Fort George G. Meade on 19 May 1944. He was a resident of Washington County, Virginia at the time.3 
Death21 Jan 1945 Less than a year later Charles was killed in combat during the Battle of the Bulge on 21 Jan 1945 in Lignerville, Belgium. He was 18.1 
Burial Charles was buried at the U.S. Military Cemetery in Henry-Chapelle, Belgium.1
