Birth21 Apr 1852 Robert Hamilton Davis was born on 21 Apr 1852 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.3 
Marriage24 Sep 1879 He married Sarah E. Everett on 24 Sep 1879 in Cabell County, West Virginia.4 
Cens-18802 Jun 1880  Robert and Sarah lived in Cabell County for the first 13 or so years of their marriage. They were recorded there on the 1880 census (the household was visited on June 2nd, just 6 weeks before the birth of the couple's first child) at which time Robert worked as a brakeman for the railroad as did his brother William who lived next door. Robert and Sarah's first 5 children were all born in Cabell County and later reported the location as the city of Huntington.5 
Residence  At some point the family apparently lived in Louisville, Kentucky, where daughter Laura was born in the fall of 1894. 
Cens-190011 Jun 1900  However by the turn of the century they had settled in Chicago where Robert was employed as a carpenter for a car [train car?] company. Sarah's entry reported that she was the mother of 6 children with 5 living [this reflects the death of son William in May 1900 at age 14]. The household also included 5 boarders.6 
Cens-191028 Apr 1910  The couple's 1910 household included daughter Ruth, her husband and 4 children.7 
Cens-192016 Jan 1920  Later in life Robert and Sarah moved to Sanford in Seminole County, Florida, where Robert continued to work as a carpenter.8 
Death12 Oct 1920 Robert died on 12 Oct 1920 in Cluster Springs, Halifax County, Virginia, at age 68.3 
Burial14 Oct 1920 He was buried on 14 Oct 1920 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia.9 

Research Comment:

Robert and Sarah's 1880 household includes two young children (Lydia Davis, age 5, and Frank Davis, age 3) identified as Robert's brother and sister. The place of birth for both children is listed as West Virginia. They were probably Sarah's youngest siblings. Cabell Co., West Virginia birth records include an entry for a Francis Everett born 23 Feb. 1877 to J.S. and Emily Everett [Sarah's parents were John Samuel Everett and Emily Flowers]. Emily (Flowers) Everett died in 1880.5,10
