Birth27 Sep 1826 Susan Ellen Owen was born on 27 Sep 1826 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.1 
Marriage1847 She married James Fields, son of William Fields and Elizabeth Lynch, in 1847 in Blountville, Sullivan County, Tennessee.1 
Cens-18508 Oct 1850  In 1850 James and Susan were enumerated residing in Abingdon. James at age 30 was already a well established brick mason whose household included 2 other brick masons in addition to Susan and their infant son Thomas. Three members of the Owens family (Sarah, 18, Joseph, 14 and James, 12) were also enumerated with James and Susan.2 
Cens-186017 Aug 1860  Ten years later James reported that he owned real estate worth $8,250 and personal property worth $6,300. James and Susan's family had grown to include 5 children: Thomas, 9; Lavinia, 7; Mary, 5; George, 3; Samuel, 1. Sixty year old Jane Lynch was also part of the household.3 
Cens-187026 Sep 1870  Following the Civil War James returned home to his family and masonry business. The families 1870 census entry reflected the fact that both the business and the family had grown. James owned land valued at $8,000; 2 apprentice brick masons lived with the family as did a black family who worked as servants for the household. All 8 of James and Susan's children lived at home; 42 year old Mary E. Owens [Susan's sister?] was also part of the household.4 
Death21 Jun 1894 Susan died on 21 Jun 1894 in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia, at age 67.1 
Burial She was buried at Sinking Spring Cemetery in Abingdon.1
