Research Comment:

Prior to Aug. 2011, Mary (daughter of Bazel) was linked as the second wife of Samuel Logan who had been previously married to Mary's sister Bethia. The Mary Talbert who married Samuel Logan in 1837 was of approximately the same age as Mary Talbert, daughter of Bazel. Further, no other marriage or death record for Mary (daughter of Bazel) had been located. Neither had Mary Talbert been identified after 1837 as a single female. Further, at the time, it was not uncommon for a young woman to marry her deceased sister's husband in order to raise their children.

However, the discovery of the 1842 entry in Washington County Minute Book 5 (referencing an unspecified Chancery case) reveals that Mary, daughter of Bazel Talbert, married Christopher Haynes and moved to Alabama. The identify of the Mary Talbert who did marry Samuel Logan remains to be solved.5
Mary was probably born at what came to be known as the Old Stagecoach Inn, on the Great Rd in Washington County. Mary's father bought the property in 1807 and for some years ran an inn at the family home. Following his death in 1818 Mary's mother continued to provide food and lodging to travelers, no doubt with Mary's help. Mary was single and living at home when her mother died in 1831.7
