BirthCircacirca 1830 Samuel M. Larimer was born in Washington County, Virginia, circa 1830 as estimated from the 1850 census and his marriage record. However the 1860 census recorded his age as 37, suggesting a birth year closer to 1823.2,4
Cens-185013 Sep 1850  In 1850 Samuel was recorded living in the home of his father and stepmother in Washington County. Samuel at 21 was a year older than his stepmother Rachel.4
Marriage27 Sep 1855 He married Phoebe Ann Snodgrass, daughter of Moses Snodgrass and Margaret Long Redshaw, on 27 Sep 1855 in Washington County, Virginia.2
Cens-18601 Aug 1860 Following their marriage Samuel and Phoebe established a household adjacent to that of Phoebe's widowed mother (Margaret Snodgrass) in Washington County. Samuel's 1860 census entry did not indicate that he owned land, however Margaret Snodgrass owned land valued at $1,500. Since there were no males living in her household, Samuel likely cared for his mother-in-law's farm. When the census was enumerated that summer, Samuel and Phoebe's family included 4 month old Sarah.5
Samuel M. Larimer may have been the Samuel Larmer who enlisted at Saltville, Virginia on May 1, 1863 as a private in Company F of the 63rd Infantry. Samuel's records indicate that he was ill at home during the late summer and early fall of 1863, following which he rejoined his company. However he was admitted to a hospital near Atlanta, Georgia on Sept. 11, 1864, suffering from dysentery and died on Sept. 15th.6
Deathbefore Feb 1869 Samuel died before Feb 1869 at which time Phoebe was appointed guardian of Sarah Jane and Laura Larimer, children of Samuel M. Larimer, deceased.7
