Thomas Edmiston of Washington Co., VA
- just debts be paid
- to wife Margaret one third part of tract now live on during her widowhood being same tract hereafter bequeathed to son Robert; also Negro boy Jacob, Negro girl named Margaret Jane. Negroes to be divided among children on Margaret’s death (if she should remarry Jacob is to be divided at that time)
- to wife Margaret choice of horses, her saddle and bridle, 3 cows, 10 sheep, 2 beds & furniture and all household cupboard and kitchen furniture; should she marry household and kitchen furniture to be divided among 3 daughters
- wife Margaret to have possession of dwelling house so long as she remains widowed
- to son Robert Buchanan tract of land whereon family now lives except that part which lies north of a line to be run from the dogwood and black oak grubb, corner near the east end of Johnston’s old land on a ridge thence running with the general course of said ridge so as to intersect the patent line near or at a white oak corner on the east end of said ridge.
- to son Robert Negro boys Sam and Bob, silver watch, rifle, fun, horse, saddle, a bed and all farming utensils.
- to daughter Margaret Montgomery tract of land known as the Mitchell tract; also Negro boy named David and Negro girl named Polly, a horse, her saddle and bridle, 3 cows, 2 beds
- to two daughters Jane Beaty Ryburn and Eliza Kennedy jointly tract of land known by the name of the Johnston tract; also a part of the tract where I now live which part lies north of a line to be run from the dogwood and black oak grubb corner near the east end of Johnston’s old lane on a ridge thence etc. (as described above under Robert)
- Jane and Eliza all land in Kentucky
- Jane and Eliza jointly Negro man named Terry and Negro girl named Mima and her child named Ann Eliza + any further issue; also several other Negroes
- Jane and Eliza each two beds
- Jane and Eliza: all monies, notes, etc., all farm animals not otherwise divised
- if child dies without marrying and without issue their share to be divided among other children; however if child is over 21 they may dispose of their share by will
- slaves devised to Jane and Eliza not to be sold out of family but divided among themselves
- personal property be not sold unless necessary for payment of debts and that the profits of estate be used for the maintenance, clothing and education of children. If there is a surplus it may be divided among children after daughter Eliza reaches fourteen
- appoint Andrew Edmiston and son Robert Buchanan Edmiston executors
