I William Beattie Sr. of the County of Virginia, state of Virginia

1. son Fountain F. Beattie ˝ of the money or proceeds of the sale of land lying in Rockcastle Co., Kentucky; also Negro man _lick, 1 bed and its furniture, also a horse worth $75

2. son Madison the farm on which I now live; also farming tools, kitchen and household furniture; also half of my horses & sheep; all my hogs, 1/3 of cattle; also all hay and grain; Negro man Tom, Negro man Owen, Negro woman Peggy, Negro boy Ike, Negro girl Leah; wagon and gearing

3. daughter Nancy, now the wife of R.B. Edmondson, Negro girl Harriet

4. son Josiah _ [V?] $500 from sale of Rockcastle Co., Kentucky land

5. son William $200 out of sale of same Kentucky land

6. son John $200 out of sale of same Kentucky land

7. son James G. $200 out of sale of same Kentucky land

8. daughter Elizabeth, now wife of William Byars $1

9. all that remains of property in and around house, such as books, to son Madison

10. remainder of estate to be equally divided amongst the following of my children: sons Robert and Absolom; daughters Eleanor White and Nancy Edmondson.

11. money or property remaining out of sale of Kentucky land after above devises paid is to be applied to debts; son Madison to pay all just debts out of his portion of estate, holding any balances that remain from the sale of land in Kentucky as his property.

will and codicil of William Beattie, Sr. deceased, exhibited in court and proved by oath of Samuel Dunn; James C. Porterfield and Arthur Hutton state that they were well acquainted with the handwriting of James Porterfield and Beatie Ryburn who are now deceased. Madison Beattie took the oath of executor and acknowledged bond of $2,000 with James C. Porterfield and John Horne his security.
