I, James A. Clark of Glade Spring in the State of Virginia hereby make this my last will and testament.

First I direct that my just debts be paid by Executor hereinafter named as soon after my death as may by him be found convenient.

Second. I give to my wife $1,000 in money also house household furniture [it appears the clerk accidently duplicated the word “house”] & kitchen furniture[,] my bay mare[,] my son William to furnish her wood & board at his table.

Third. by Deed I give to my son Charles A. Clark the east end of my farm.

Fourth. by Deed I give to my son Wm N. Clark the west end of my farm. Also I give my Stringer farm & my half of the Baylor land to my sons Charles A. Clark and William N. Clark jointly.

Fifth. I give to my son William N. Clark my flock of sheep also my hogs and my Black filly, my bay horse to remain on the farm as long as he lives[,] also my part of the grain.

Sixth. I give my cattle to my sons Charles A. Clark and William N. Clark to be equally divided between them.

Seventh. After my wife gets $1,000 the ballance [sic] of my money to be equally divided between my sons Charles A. Clark and William N. Clark.

Eight. I also give my son William N. Clark all my farming utensils.

Ninth. I hereby appoint my son Wm N. Clark to be executor of this will.

In testimony whereof I hereto set my hand this 10th day of January AD 1889.

Signed and published as his last will by the said James A. Clark in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses

At a Court begun and held for Washington County the __ day of November 1889.

     The last will and testament of James A. Clark deceased was this day produced in court and proved by the oaths of H.S. Robinson and M.W. Robinson, the two subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. Thereupon on motion of William N. Clark the Executor therein named, who took the oath of an Executor prescribed by law and together with H.S. Robinson and M.W. Robinson his securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the sum of $6,000 conditioned as the law directs. A Certificate is therefore granted him for the probate of the said will of Jas A. Clark deceased in due form.
