William Edmiston of Washington Co., Virginia

1. just debts to be paid from personal property

2. to wife Elizabeth Edmiston the following slaves: Dinah, Esther, Ellen and Sam during her natural life to be disposed of as she sees best except Sam who at the death or marriage of Elizabeth is to pass to my son Andrew. Should Elizabeth marry the first 3 slaves mentioned (with any issue) to my sons William Edmiston, Gen’l W.C. Edmiston & my daughter Ketsey M. Edmiston jointly after the death of my wife Elizabeth. All my kitchen and household furniture except the legacies hereafter mentioned to be disposed of as my wife Elizabeth wishes unless she marries in which case after her death it will pass to my son Andrew Edmiston and my daughter Ketsey M. Edmiston equally.

I also give to my wife Elizabeth one equal third of the tract of land on which I now live; she may remain in the mansion house until her death or marriage. At her death or marriage the land shall go my sons Robert Edmiston, William Edmiston, Andrew Edmiston and Gen’l W. C. Edmiston as hereafter devised.

3. to my daughter Ketsey M. Edmiston a horse & saddle valued at $110, 1 negro girl 8 or 9 years old without impediments, 2 feather beds & their furniture, 2 cows & calves. The negro girl is to be paid by my wife Elizabeth out of the slaves left to her; the other property to be paid by my executors from my personal property when Ketsey turns 21 or marries.

4. to my son Andrew 190 acres of land being part of the tract where I now live, including the building in which I now live, identified by survey bearing date 10 Sept. 1806 no. 3. Also to son Andrew my personal estate not otherwise bequeathed.

5. to my sons Robert Edmiston, William Edmiston and Gen. W.C. Edmiston the remaining part of the tract of land on which I now live, jointly; surveyed 6th, 8th and 9th of Sept. 1806 and numbered 1-2.
